ENTRY FORMALITIES
A valid passport or travelling document is required as the return ticket. A visitor’s visa is normally granted for a period of two weeks to one month upon arrival, to almost all holders of a valid passport, with one or two exceptions. Drug trafficking is illegal and carries very heavy penalties.

HEALTH
No vaccinations are required. However a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers who arrive from areas where yellow fever cases are reported.

CLIMATE
On the highlands, the day temperature varies from 24 to 28°C during the summer months ( November to April ) and from 16 to 20°C during winter time. On the coastal areas, the temperature is 3 to 5°C higher.. Click here for actual weather.

ELECTRICITY
Local voltage is 220 volts.

CURRENCY
The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee which is divided into 100 cents. There are coins of 5, 20 and 50 cents and coins of 1, 5, 10 and 20 rupees. With regards to the bank notes, they are in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 rupees.

CREDIT CARDS
Major credit cards are the most commonly accepted by banks, hotels, restaurants and shops.
  VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)
A 15% VAT is applicable on all invoices relating to the purchase of goods and services including hotel and restaurant bills.

POPULATION
1,240,827 (Year 2006). Ethnic groups:
Indo-Mauritians 68%, Creoles 27%, Sino-Mauritians 3%, Franco-Mauritians 2%. Religions: Hindu , Roman Catholic, other Christian, Islam

LANGUAGES
English is the official language but most people in Mauritius are bilingual being equally fluent in English and French. Creole and French predominate everyday life and several oriental languages are also spoken.

TIPS
Is not compulsory but remains an appreciation of good service.

Monday to Thursday : 9.15 am -3.15 pm, Friday: 9.15 am-3.30 pm,

Saturday - Sunday: Closed

VALUABLES & SAFETY
It is advisable to keep all valuables, documents and personal belongings in the hotel safe and not to leave personal belongings unattended on the beach.
